The cost of leveling up your career is way less than LinkedIn Premium

We know what you’re thinking: “Another social media app? Another subscription to pay for?”

Fair questions. The internet is already crowded with apps competing for your attention, your data, and your wallet. So why build another one?

Because we think career discovery deserves better than what’s out there right now. oyster is your fun, simple first step toward a more fulfilling career — a place to explore paths, ask questions, and talk to real people who’ve actually walked the road you’re curious about. And it’s built differently on purpose. We refuse to compromise your experience, your data, or your career discovery journey to make a buck.

We do offer a Freemium version (three searches, one Pod, and one 1:1 Chat) so you can get a real feel for the oyster impact before committing to anything. No bait-and-switch, no disappearing features once you’re hooked — just an honest preview of what the platform can do for you. But at our core, we’re a subscription business, and that’s not an accident. It’s a choice we made deliberately, and we want to explain why.

A clean, user-first experience — no compromises

When a platform is free, you’re the product. That’s not a cynical take, it’s just how the economics work. Someone has to pay for the servers, the development, the growth — and if it’s not you, it’s an advertiser. That usually means ads clogging up your feed, and being nudged toward whichever “Big 10” tech company paid the most to get in front of you, whether or not they’re actually the right fit for your career.

We didn’t want that for oyster. We didn’t want your discovery journey — arguably one of the most important journeys you’ll take — to be shaped by whoever has the deepest pockets. Your monthly fee is what lets us stay independent of that pressure. It’s what allows us to keep building features that genuinely serve you, instead of chasing ad revenue or bending our product roadmap to please advertisers. It’s how we keep your feed clean, focused, and actually aligned with where you want your career to go, not where someone else’s marketing budget wants to push you.

Filtering for intentionality

A subscription also does something subtler: it keeps out the bots and the bad actors. Free platforms tend to attract a certain kind of noise — fake profiles, spam, people who aren’t really there to connect (more there for the ego boost). That small investment is a signal. It tells us, and it tells everyone else on the platform, that the people you’re connecting with on oyster are real professionals who actually want to trade genuine career insight, not empty networking or noise.

In other words, everyone on oyster has a little skin in the game. That changes the tenor of the whole community: conversations feel more genuine, advice feels more earned, and connections feel more real.

And we’ve kept that investment small, deliberately. We didn’t want price to be the reason someone couldn’t access a better career path, so we priced oyster like modern-day coffee money, something you could justify without a second thought:

That’s it. No hidden tiers, no surprise upsells. Just a small, honest cost for a platform that’s actually working for you.

You deserve a platform built to maximize your growth, not someone else’s ad revenue. You deserve a space where your career questions get real answers from real people, not an algorithm optimized for engagement.

oyster is a small investment to build a career that actually fits who you are.
